Bed Frames

To complement our top quality organic mattresses, we offer sturdy and beautiful bed frames, in either hardwood or upholstered styles.

Local Hardwood Bed Frames

Our hardwood frames are handcrafted in Tompkins County from locally grown and milled hardwoods such as ash, maple and cherry. Master furniture craftsman James Nagel hand selects the lumber for our custom frames, searching out extraordinary boards with beautiful grain patterns to feature in the headboards and footboards. Because our region is rich in hardwood tree species, local solid hardwood furniture is one luxury that is still sustainable. The sturdy 3" wide slats are made from select clear maple for optimum strength. Many of our frames are made from local ash, a species which is being rapidly harvested to minimize the spread of the invasive emerald ash borer.

Frames can be ordered in the designs shown here, or we can customize your dream bed from your own design ideas or sketches. Wolff and Nagel can also consult with you on a design that will harmonize with your existing furniture.

Each frame is elegantly designed by Elisabeth Bly Wolff & James Nagel for maximum ergonomic comfort, and solidly constructed to last for decades. Frames are finished with AFM Naturals Oil Wax finish (made with polymerized linseed oil, organic safflower oil and other plant-derived oils and waxes).

Upholstered Bed Frames

Our upholstered bed frames are made with fair labor practices in Los Angeles, CA by Cisco Brothers. Cisco's designs are fresh, elegant and sophisticated. The beds feature FSC-certified sustainably harvested hardwood frames padded with organic cotton and wool batting. A variety of sustainable upholstery fabrics are available in linen, hemp, organic cotton and more. Removable, washable slipcovers are an option.

The Sweet Trees Bed

Made by Wolff & Nagel (Brooktondale, NY)

This gorgeous frame is made from local cherry, with a figured maple panel showcased in the headboard. Craftsman-style details include through-tenon joinery and tapered square legs, and elevate this piece to the realm of fine furniture. Maple and cherry call to mind the syrup of early spring and the fruit of summer - hence the name, "Sweet Trees". You can purchase the current floor model, or order a newly crafted-to-order frame. Customizations are welcome.

The Cascadilla Bed

Made by Wolff & Nagel (Brooktondale, NY)

This gorgeous frame is 100% local cherry, with a wide-board cherry panel showcased in the headboard. Design is the same as "Sweet Trees" but without the two "windows" in the headboard. Craftsman-style details include through-tenon joinery and tapered square legs. You can purchase the current floor model, or order a newly crafted-to-order frame.

The Brooktondale Bed

This handsome frame is made from local ash. Its elegant and modern design features a horizontally slatted headboard with (optional) circular cutouts, and subtly curved feet. Customizations are welcome.

The Minimalist Bed

This straightforward no-headboard design combines elegant simplicity with solid, durable construction. Made from local ash. When placed against a wall, we find that large pillows (like our kapok fill euro size pillows) make excellent back rests for reading, so a headboard is not always functionally necessary.

The Rowan Bed

This stylish bed features a tufted headboard with sides that curve down to meet the upholstered side rails.

The Hudson Bed

A boldly modern design that is also functional and cozy, the Hudson features a wrap-around headboard which creates a sofa-like environment for reading or watching movies in bed.

The Loft Bed

With an elegant design that evokes simplicity, softness and groundedness, the Loft Bed is a natural partner for an organic mattress.

Assembly

All of our frames go together easily. Brass keyhole-style brackets firmly connect the side rails to the headboard and footboard, so there are no nuts or bolts to lose.

Delivery/Shipping of Furniture

In Tompkins County NY, delivery and set up are free.

In rest of continental USA, shipping is 10% of the purchase price, and includes inside delivery.
